Projects and Visions
Our projects and Visions
Our core project; we want to give you the skills and confidence to get onto the dance floor. We offer courses in different styles that fuse together to Timba: Casino, Rumba Guaguanco, Reggaeton and more.
Our classes are organized by ÖH at TU (HTU) Graz. Each course starts with a free 'taster' workshop. Beyond the taster workshop, there will be 4 sessions of 90 minutes; time to cover the fundamentals, give you time to practice in class and get you ready for social dancing. You can find all the information about ongoing classes and how to register on the Classes page.
We want the whole community to grow, does not matter if cross-body-salsa or casino/son/timba scene, in order to get there, we need to have young people joining the community. Unfortunately this becomes harder and harder here in Graz. There are a lot of people starting to dance but they are not coming to any party ?! Other communities and parties grow very stronger (Belgrade, Budapest, Ljubljana, Vienna).
As far as i could tell, one key element is entertainment and the "party feeling" that drives people - we would like to fix this.
We appreciate if you are participating on our Timþarty and Timba Classes - however learning from others and connecting with different communities is what made us grow. So we are going on events, parties, festivals, workshops as team.
There is a lot of information on the web - we are putting structure to it, and evaluation it. From curriculum to pedagogic practice, from rhythm to music we are preparing and teaching our classes based on smaller elements called "skills". These skills are grouped into different scopes:
- basic routines
- lead and follow
- different dances, history and development
- music theory
Classes and workshops are great, but we really want you to be able get out and social dance. There was no regular (local) Party playing Timba music in our hometown, project Timþarty is going to change that. We simply love this music and it drives us. We will go for a Timþarty at the end of each course; so you can socialize, practice what you've learned and get to know others in the group and look ahead for the next level.
